Abstract

Abstract
Candidiasis is an opportunistic fungal infection caused by the fungus Candida sp., one of which is Candida
albicans. Green betel extract is known to contain phenols that can cause protein denaturation in mushrooms and
their derivative compounds, including kavikol, karvacol, cavibetol, eugenol, and allipyrocatechol. This research
was conducted to determine the effectiveness of green betel leaf extract (Piper betle L.) against the growth of the
fungus C. albicans. The material used is green betel leaf which is extracted by maceration method. The results of
the maceration were then concentrated with a rotatory evaporator after which it was freeze dried to remove the
moisture content of the extract. The concentrations used in the extract were 3.125%, 6.25%, 12.5%, 25%, and
50%. The selection of this concentration was based on previous research to compare the results of the clear zone
formed. The type of research used is descriptive experimental. The antimicrobial activity test method used was
the disc diffusion method. The results of the research showed that green betel leaf extract could inhibit the
growth of C. albicans at all concentrations marked by the presence of a clear zone. mm, 12.5% concentration
was 11.9 mm, 25% concentration was 13.7 mm and 50% concentration was 14.0 mm, so that the effective
concentration in inhibiting fungal growth was 50%.
